Two more killings were reported on Saturday, resulting in casualties in political violence in West Bengal from June 8 to June 25. Meanwhile, some TMC workers were said to have urinated on the face of a BJP poll worker after assaulting him. The accident occurred in Pachem Medinipur district on Thursday evening.
According to sources, the TMC allegedly kidnapped BJP worker, Barun Roeds, and assaulted him by urinating on his face when he asked for water. However, the Trinamool Congress denied all allegations and said that these were part of a “well-conceived plan by the opposition to tarnish the image of the ruling party”.
According to Ruedas, who was taken to a local hospital on Friday, his “captors” took him to the local Transitional Military Council office. A BJP delegation led by party leader Samit Das went to the hospital on Saturday morning to meet Ruidas.
Speaking to medical workers outside the hospital, Das alleged, “The TMC workers demanded money from polling agent Baron Roedes, who refused to pay them. He was then kidnapped and taken to a party office where he was severely beaten. When he asked for water, the TMC workers urinated.” drunk on his face. We have filed a complaint with the police on this matter.”
TMC MLA and Party Area Coordinator in Paschim Medinipur Ajit Maiti said, “The elections in Garpeta district were peaceful. We organized victory processions in a humble way to avoid any kind of tension. BJP is making up stories to create tension in the district. It is their pre-planned strategy to smear Our party photo. This is very unfortunate.”
According to a senior police officer of Paschim Medinipur District Police, a complaint has been filed in this regard and investigation is underway.
On the other hand, the death toll in political violence in West Bengal since the notification of the June 8 panchayat elections rose to 52 after two more people were reported dead.
A 61-year-old TMC worker, injured in a political clash in Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district on the eve of the July 8 panchayat elections, died on Saturday. The TMC blamed the Indian secular front for the murder. But the opposition party denied this allegation.
Sources said that Sheikh Muslim was seriously injured in an attack with bars in Bhangar on the night of 7 July, hours before polling for the panchayat elections began. He died of his injuries in a private hospital in Kolkata.
TMC MLA from Canning Purba, Saukat Mullah, claimed that Muslims were attacked “without any provocation”. Internal Security Forces workers have unleashed a reign of terror in Bhangar district. Another worker from our party died today. “This is the job of the Internal Security Forces,” said Al-Mulla.
But Naushad Siddiqui denied the allegations. “Our workers do not engage in any kind of violence. We demand a high-level investigation,” Siddiqui said.
“Every death is unfortunate. This should not happen. Why should violence mar the panchayat elections? Why are so many lives lost during the elections? With the loss of life only in Bengal?” Majumdar asked.
Meanwhile, a person was stabbed to death in Canning in South 24 Parganas district on Friday. The Transitional Military Council claimed to be its supporters. The victim has been identified as Nanto Ghazi.
