NCP leader Supriya Soli has sought tough action against the two men who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl several times on the outskirts of Pune over a period of two weeks by threatening to harm her and her parents.

A First Information Report (FIR) in the case was registered at a police station of the Pune City Police Authority on 12 July against the two accused, who are two brothers aged 24 and 22.

The police arrested the two men under Sections 376(2)(b), 376(d), 506 and 452 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Child Sexual Offenses Prevention (Pocso) Act.

In her tweet on Friday, Sulli said the underage girl was raped after being threatened with a “koyta” (machete). Describing the crime as “absolutely heinous”, the MP asked Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to look into the matter and take immediate action.

Officials at the police station said the incident came to light when the girl’s mother saw the two suspects near their house. When the mother asked the girl about their presence, the girl told her of repeated sexual abuse by the two men over a two-week period.

The rape case sparked unrest among the locals from different communities who recently organized a rally to condemn the incident and demand action against the accused.
