The statement said the central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs to create a drug-free India.
More than 1.44 thousand kilograms of medicines worth Rs 2,416 crore will be destroyed in various parts of the country on Monday in the physical presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
An official statement said that the destruction of the drugs will take place in different cities when Shah watches it through video conferencing from New Delhi while attending a conference on “drug trafficking and national security”.
The medicines to be destroyed will include 6,590 kg seized by the Hyderabad unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau, 822 kg by the Indore unit and 356 kg seized by its Jammu unit.
Besides, different law enforcement agencies in different states will also destroy drugs – 1486 kg of drugs in Assam, 229 kg in Chandigarh, 25 kg in Goa, 4277 kg in Gujarat, 2458 kg in Haryana, and 4,069 kg in Jammu and Kashmir, 1, 03,884 kg in Madhya Pradesh, 159 kg in Maharashtra, 1,803 kg in Tripura and 4,049 kg in Uttar Pradesh.
The statement said the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs to create a drug-free India.
From 1st June 2022 till 15th July 2023, all NCB Territorial Units and State Narcotics Task Forces have collectively destroyed around 8,76,554 kg of seized drugs worth around Rs 9,580 crore – more than 11 times the target.
With the destruction of drugs on Monday, the total amount of drugs destroyed in just one year will reach about 10 kilograms. The combined value of these drugs is around Rs 12,000 crore.
In order to realize Prime Minister Modi’s dream of a drug-free India, this drug destruction drive will continue actively with the same fervor, the statement added.
