UFC Vegas 77 has proven to be a solid fighting card, showcasing a thrilling display of memorable action throughout the event. The card not only provided exciting moments, but also served as a platform for budding competitors to put their marks inside the octagon.
In the main event, Mayra Bueno Silva delivered a career defining performance by submitting former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm in the second round. First showing off her skillful moves and expertise, Holm unleashed her stern offense and set up a time controlled clinch position against the cage.
Holm used the clinch position to effectively neutralize Bueno Silva’s hitting attack. However, during one of these exchanges, the Brazilian managed to subdue Holm and plunge her into a guillotine choke which won her the fight. With this victory, Bueno Silva won four consecutive fights inside the Octagon.
In the co-main event, Jacques Della Maddalena and Basil Hafez engaged in a thrilling three-round affair, which was also awarded the “Fight of the Night” bonus. Della Maddalena faced his toughest test yet inside the UFC octagon in the thrilling co-main event clash.
Hafez showed impressive takedowns and grappling exchanges in the opening rounds. However, fatigue and the onslaught of Della Maddalena’s body and boxing began to take their toll on Hafez. Despite Hafez’s valiant efforts, the judges awarded the split-decision victory to Della Maddalena, who has now won five straight fights under the UFC banner.
Competition contender Francisco Prado impressed with his statement-making performance on the Ottoman Azetre. He deftly countered Azaitar’s attempt to chain a combo together and landed a thunderous spinning elbow on the table. The elbow dropped Azaitar and Prado furiously followed by ground and pound, eventually resulting in a first-round TKO victory.
Meanwhile, Junyong Park defeated Albert Duraev via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:45 of the second round, concluding an electrifying, high-paced clash between the two fighters.
In the opening fights of the card, Norma Dumont defeated Chelsea Chandler via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) while Nazim Sadikoff shone with a second round victory over Terence McKinney.
