TMC MLA Abdul Karim Chowdhury on Sunday again spoke out against the party and threatened not to support any bill introduced by the government in the assembly and to abstain from voting in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in the state if “atrocities” were inflicted on his loyalists by a rival faction affiliate.

Speaking to the medical workers, TMC’s Islampur MLA in Uttar Dinajpur district said, “Our workers are constantly being targeted by a section of our party. Their rights are being violated. If this continues, I will boycott the party’s platforms and will not take part in the discussion in the assembly or I will not support any law Project “.

“If a faction in my party continues to commit atrocities against the common people, many of whom are loyal to me; if the beatings and arson continue unabated without any interference from the senior officials of the party, I will have to abstain in the Rajya Sabha polls,” he added.

Since last month, the TMC MLA has been vocal against the party leadership after its selection of candidates was rejected in the just concluded panchayat elections. Chaudhry presented independent candidates against the candidates of the Transitional Military Council. However, the Independents lost the election. Chowdhury claimed that since then independent candidates have been targeted by a section of the TMC workers.

Although the matter was communicated to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, nothing was done to stop the atrocities. I will urge the management to take action against the people responsible for this,” Chowdhury said.

However, the Transitional Military Council refused to give much weight to the claim. He (Chaudhary) is the leader of a rebel party. He makes baseless allegations. Those who indulged in violence on election day fled their homes. The police are looking for them. No atrocities were committed against anyone. “Only the perpetrators will have to be held accountable for their misdeeds,” said TMC leader and head of the Islampur bloc, Zakir Hussain.

The Transitional Military Council has announced candidates for six Rajya Sabha seats in West Bengal that will go to the polls on July 24.
