On Sunday, July 16, world number one tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated legend Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-set match to win his second Grand Slam title after the 2022 US Open. The match lasted four hours and 42 minutes.

After losing the opening set 1-6, the Cars came from behind to win in straight sets 7-6(6), 6-1. Despite this, Djokovic came back to extend the final to a five-set epic. Alcaraz then grabbed the fifth set and won the match 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, ending Djokovic’s hopes of winning his 24th major.

With the win, the Spaniard also avenged the loss to Djokovic that he suffered in the semi-finals of the 2023 French Open.

The 20-year-old became the first player outside the Big 4 — Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray — to win the Wimbledon Cup since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002.

After the win, Indian Premier League franchise Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore shared a congratulatory tweet, comparing Alcaraz to Kohli. They wrote:

Greatness begins at an early age. Legacy follows in the years to come! We were reminded of Cheb Ferrat when we saw Carlos Alcaraz #PlayBold to beat #Wimbledon last night! Vamos, Carlito! “

For starters, one tennis commentator first compared Alcaraz to Kohli during the quarter-finals of the 2022 French Open, where Alcaraz beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets.

It should be noted that tennis is an individual sport (except for doubles), but cricket is a team game.

What did Carlos Alcaraz and Virat Kohli achieve at the age of twenty?

Like Virat Kohli, Carlos Alcaraz has also grown from strength to strength despite being from a different sport. Besides two Majors, the right-handed player has won 10 other titles, including the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid (twice), Indian Wells and Miami Open.

The Cars will now be looking to repeat their championships at the US Open later this year. He aims to become the youngest and only ninth player to win all four Grand Slams by lifting the Australian Open and later the French Open.

The legend Rafael Nadal, who also hails from Spain, is the youngest player (24) to win all four Grand Slams (men’s singles).

On the other hand, 20-year-old Kohli led India to win the 2008 Under-19 World Cup, where his team beat South Africa by 12 points in the final. Kohli also lifted the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy with Men in Blue.

With the bat, the Delhi-born batsman’s career took off after he smashed his maiden ODI in the 14th ODI against Sri Lanka. Since then, Kohli has never looked back.

The 34-year-old is now the sixth highest scorer in international cricket with the second ton (75), behind Sachin Tendulkar (100 centuries).

Like Kohli, Carlos Alcaraz will also be looking to continue his meteoric rise.
