On the eve of Tuesday’s opposition meeting, a group of leaders worked late into the night to draft a joint statement likely to be issued next. The two parties wanted to issue a joint statement in Patna as well, but were unable to do so after the League President Arvind Kejriwal took the position that the Congress should announce its stand on the Centre’s decree on services in Delhi at the post-meeting press conference. It was to be called “Samohik Sankalp” (collective pledge). The parties now hope to issue a joint statement on Tuesday, which is likely to cover issues such as violence in Manipur, political developments in Maharashtra, atrocities against women and Dalits, and what opposition parties allege is abuse of central agencies and “overreach” by state governors. It is governed by opposition parties.

An invitation to participate in the All India Lawn Tennis Tournament for Civil Servants, distributed by the Personnel and Training Department, encourages the officials to take part in the event and reminds that if any participant fails to report at the venue and participate, it shall be treated as an act of ‘indiscipline’. Officials are also expected to maintain “strict discipline” in and out of the venue. Any act of misconduct/misconduct, notes the circular, will attract provisions of the Code of Conduct for Government Employees whereby officials are treated as “on duty” during the tournament. The event is organized by the Cultural and Sports Council of the Central Civil Service.
