Jasprit Bumrah recently hinted that he might be returning to Indian colors soon, with a touching video on his Instagram handle. The video contained footage from a training session at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he also underwent rehabilitation.
Bumra has not played competitive cricket since September last year after he suffered a stress fracture in his back. The India team missed him a lot in the T20 World Cup and also in the final of the World Test Championship. However, the pacer looks set to return to the Men in Blue squad soon, hopefully fully fit for the all-important ODI World Cup.
Here is Jaspreet Bumrah’s Instagram post:
Several reports indicated that Jasprit Bumrah was playing 8-10 overs every day in the NCA with no signs of soreness and that he would likely return for three T20Is against Ireland, which will be played in Dublin from 18th to 23rd August.
According to reports from Cricbuzz, Rahul Dravid and the rest of the coaching staff will be rested after the ongoing West Indies tour and NCA President VVS Laxman will travel with the team to Ireland as interim head coach.
India’s fast bowling, especially in an ODI setting, appears to be lacking a death-passing specialist. Over the past few series, they have played with Mohamed El Shami and Mohamed Siraj sharing the new ball, and Shared Al Thakur and Imran Malik playing enforcers through the middle.
However, Bumrah’s potential return could solve problems in the background from the innings and give captain Rohit Sharma the luxury to spin his levers knowing he can count on the superstar of pace to deliver.
