Is Fortnite and World of Warcraft getting a crossover event?
[ad_1]
The latest series of leaks and data files have revealed that Fortnite may finally be getting a crossover event with World of Warcraft. Speculation first started with WoW Patch 10.1.7 PTR containing spells referencing Fortnite, then a Renegade Looter mod was identified which looks quite similar to the Renegade Rider from Battle Royale.
What makes a potential WoW crossover event surprising is the fact that MMORPGs hardly ever get into such collaboration. Although there was a crossover with Diablo recently, the two games are Blizzard IPs and this didn’t surprise many fans as the developers were looking to promote Diablo 4 through this.
However, while it’s surprising to find potential Fortnite references in the World of Warcraft PTR, it’s just another day on the drawing board for Epic’s Battle Royale. Over the years, Fortnite has invested in a plethora of collaborative efforts with multiple IPs from different developers, and if the WoW crossover turns out to be anything more than a rumor, it will be just another feather in its cap.
Fortnite x World of Warcraft leaks and speculation
As mentioned, Fortnite X World of Warcraft speculation comes from some files whose data has been collected from WoW Patch 10.1.7 PTR release. For those unaware, PTR stands for Public Test Realm, where Blizzard adds and tests future MMO content before it officially ships with the final update.
According to the new set of data leaks from the PTR servers, it appears that the community has found files that reference some spells from Fortnite. In addition, a data model for the “Renegade Looter” was also found to look quite similar to the Renegade Rider from Battle Royale.
What makes a Fortnite-World of Warcraft crossover event plausible is the fact that another set of data-specific leaks shows that the Epic title is gearing up for an event with Elder Scrolls Online, an MMORPG by Bethesda and ZeniMax.
Thus, it wouldn’t be surprising if Fortnite finally added WoW to the ever-growing list of IPs they’ve teamed up with.
However, players should take this bit of speculative news with a grain of salt. While these leaks may come true, they likely aren’t a full event and are just indications that World of Warcraft is making for other games that have a history of doing so.
