The new Congress government in Karnataka has suspended the allocation of more than 35 acres of land in Bengaluru to the RSS-linked Janaseva Trust, which runs educational institutions, on the grounds of alleged violation of land allocation rules.
The Trust, which currently operates a school on a 50-acre property on Magadi Road in the western outskirts of Bengaluru, has been granted 35.33 acres by the former BJP government in the village of Kuruparahalli in Tavarikiri Hubli in the Bengaluru South Taluk.
The new Congress government that came to power on May 13 this year after winning the assembly elections has suspended all land allotments made by the previous BJP government for legality checks, including the 35.33 acres given to the Janaseva Trust.
“All land grants made by the previous BJP government to private organizations including RSS organizations are scrutinized. In many cases, the land was granted in the absence of any formal application. Sources in the Ministry of Law regarding the blocking of land grant orders to Janaseva Trust said that many of the allotments would not be subject to the control of the law.
The issue was raised in the state legislature this week with senior BJP legislator and former minister Kota Srinivas Pujari accusing Congress of indulging in a policy of revenge over the granting of land to the RSS-linked fund for the purpose of education.
“The Janaseva Trust was set up with the aim of providing education to children from backward communities. The trust was granted by the previous government with 35.33 acres of land in Kuruparahalli village of Tavarikiri Hubli in the Bengaluru South Taluk. BJP MLC Srinivas Pujari said during the zero hour in the assembly on Monday, Since the new government came to power, the order to grant land was prohibited.
The Janaseva Trust was given the land to be used for education purposes but the matter was only banned on the grounds that the trust is associated with the RSS. The trust provides education to people of all castes and communities and the decision to stop granting the land is a vindictive policy. This matter is condemned.
The BJP leader stated that money has been deposited with the government to transfer the land for the Janaseva Trust. “The government should withdraw its decision to stop allocating land,” he said.
The Congress government is going to give an official response but the Congress leaders have already indicated that decisions to allocate land to the RSS and other Sangh organizations taken by the previous BJP government will be reviewed for legality.
The state health secretary said last month that hundreds of acres of land given to RSS organizations would be reviewed by the new congressional government.
The Janaseva Trust, which started in 1971, has been running a school about 20 kilometers from Bengaluru for the past 51 years on 50 acres of land given to it. The school for boys has an enrollment of more than 650 students at present and follows a curriculum steeped in Hindu culture and learning.
