A 14-year-old girl, who was alone in her home here, was found murdered on Tuesday and about 25 lakh rupees is missing as police detained a person on suspicion of involvement in the case, officials said.
The incident occurred in Purana Sutiana district under the boundaries of Ecotech 3 police station when the girl’s father, Sudarshan Biraji, an Ayurvedic doctor, went to his clinic in Sector 93 in the morning with his wife and youngest child, they said.
“When they returned home around 1.30pm, they found the victim, Shelby, lying on the bed with a piece of cloth tied around her neck and some blood oozing from her mouth. The child was taken to a nearby hospital but did not survive,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Anil Kumar Yadav said.
Biraji, a native of Meerut district, told police that he had recently sold a property which brought him about Rs 23.50 lakh which was kept in the house, along with Rs 1.50 lakh which he already owned, Yadav said.
“Biraji raised suspicions about a man who hails from the same village as the doctor. This man often visited his home as well. The doctor raised suspicions about the man’s involvement in the case as he (the suspect) asked in the morning his wife what time they would go to the clinic and when they would return,” he said. This person, known to the family, has been taken into custody for questioning on the basis of suspicion, the officer said, adding that the police are investigating all possible angles of the case and analyzing available CCTV footage.
