What to expect from the San Francisco 49ers in 2023

The San Francisco 49ers have had a whirlwind 2022, as the team lost two starting quarterbacks but still discovered a hidden gem in Brock Purdy. Mr. Irelevant of the 2022 NFL team guided the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game, where they narrowly fell short to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 49ers are hoping for more next season, and it all starts with finding clarity in the QB1 slot. It’s a matchup between Trey Lance and Purdy, with the latter still recovering from an injury he sustained in the NFC Championship game.

Since the arrival of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch in 2017, the 49ers have gone through an entire season with only one starter (Jamie G in 2019).

With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Purdy and Lance rotated the regular season job, especially since they’re both coming back from serious injuries. However, the 49ers indicated that Purdy had earned the right to start the season.
