Nine people, including two policemen and several medical staff, were injured Tuesday in stone-throwing during a protest in Jaipur by leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing against an alleged gang of Dalit girls in Jodhpur, police said, adding that eight protesters were arrested.
Another protest was staged by BJP Yuva Morcha workers near the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) office in Ajmer against the leakages of employment examination papers.
The National BJYM President, Tejasvi Surya, who participated in the “Yuva Aakrosh Maha Gherav Demonstration” in Ajmer, claimed that “unwarranted accusation against our workers has resulted in more than 70 people being hospitalized. Four sustained serious injuries while the condition of two people is critical.” However, Shafi Sharma, Ajmer (North) constituency police officer, said no one was hurt when the police pushed back the protesters as no orders were in force in the civil lines area and they tried to cross the barricade by climbing over it.
She said that two female police officers were injured in the scuffle between protesters who were pushed back using “light force.”
Meanwhile in Jaipur, Yuva Morcha activists demonstrated at the main gate of the University of Rajasthan campus to demand justice for the Jodhpur Ghangrab victim.
Police said stones were pelted from inside the campus when the official stopped the protesters from blocking JLN Road.
Gandhinagar Police Officer Surendra Yadav said five students, two media personnel and two policemen were injured in the stone-throwing. He said that the protesters also broke a reporter’s camera.
He reported that eight activists were arrested under Article 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on charges of disturbing the peace.
A 17-year-old Dalit girl who eloped with her boyfriend was allegedly gang-raped by three college students in front of him in Jodhpur on Sunday.
At a BJYM protest in Ajmer, a party leader claimed that some workers, including the BJP’s state president Yuva Morcha, were taken to hospital for treatment for injuries.
Ajmer district superintendent of police Chunaram Jat said the protesters were dispersed under section 129 of the Criminal Procedure Code (requiring an assembly of five or more persons who are likely to cause disturbance to the public peace by dispersing).
In his address, Surya said, 19 consecutive paper leaks have been reported in the state in the last four and a half years causing great injustice to the youth.
“We will create a movement in the entire state and form a new government under the leadership of Rajasthan,” he said.
