Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday secured police remand for two days for an IAS officer Sangay peoplesand is accused in a disproportionate assets case registered against him.

A VB spokesperson said Popli was filed in the CJM Mohali court, after obtaining a production warrant in the case registered in August last year. The court returned him to pretrial detention for two days. The case was registered under Sections 13(1)(B)R/w 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB Flying Squad-1 Police Station, Punjab.

An IAS officer in Central Jail Patiala has been detained under judicial remand in another registered case U/s 7, 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B IPC at the Vigilance Office of Police Station, Flying Squad-1, Punjab in Mohali.

During the investigation of this case and based on his disclosure statement, various items were recovered from the accused’s home, including 9 pieces of gold (1 kilogram each), 49 pieces of golden biscuits (totaling 3160 grams), and 12 gold coins. (356 g), 3 Silver Bars (1 kg each), 18 Silver Coins (180 g each), Four Apple iPhones, One Samsung Fold, Two Samsung Smart Watches, 700 Indian Banknotes of Rs 500 (total 3,50,000 rupees).

The investigation revealed that the value of gold and silver recovered had exceeded Rs 6.62 crore. The record relating to his properties, salaries, bank accounts and other assets has been taken and is being examined.
