New York Mets quarterback Starling Mart was scratched in Tuesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox in the last minute.
Reports indicated that Marte was scratched due to a migraine, although it was also noted that the player was still experiencing “constant pain and soreness” from the off-season hip surgery.

Regarding the hip surgery and the after-effects he suffered during his not-so-perfect season with the New York Mets, Starling Mart told Abe Mastraco of the New York Daily News:
“I can’t lie and say it’s affecting my running, because it’s not how I feel at the moment, but at the same time, we work every day and do whatever we need to do to improve it.”
Starling Mart was an All-Star for the second time in his career last season, his first with the New York Mets. However, his numbers in 2023 were a far cry from his pace in 2022.
Last season, Marte hit . 292 with 16 home runs and 63 RBI in 118 games. So far this season, he’s hit . 254 with five homers and 28 RBIs in 84 games.
Marty’s head and groin problems are the latest upset to hit the Mets during the organization’s nightmarish 2023 campaign.
The team lost two of three against the Los Angeles Dodgers in its first series since the All-Star break and entered its opening Tuesday series against the White Sox at 43-50 on the year. New York is 18.5 games behind the National League-leading Atlanta Braves and 8.5 games away from Wild Card Stadium.
Marte, 34, has signed a four-year, $78 million contract extension through the 2025 season. A 12-year MLB veteran, Marte has a career-high 0.287 average with 147 homers and 593 RBI since debuting with Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012. He has also played for the Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks and Oakland Athletics.
