Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt on Wednesday sharply criticized the IOA-appointed ad hoc committee’s decision to hand out exemptions to Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat from the Asian Games selection trials, saying the “biased move” was not in the interest of the country. sports.

The IOA ad hoc committee on Tuesday handed direct Asian Games entries to Bajrang Punia (65kg) and Vinesh Phogat (53kg), who have been at the forefront of protesting against outgoing Indian Wrestling Federation (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Charan Singh.

Young wrestlers, especially the most affected Antim Pangal and Sujit Kalkal, lashed out at the committee and dragged it to court, demanding a fair trial in all categories.

“There is nothing to celebrate and be happy about in wrestling in the past six or seven months. We don’t want wrestlers to hit the roads again because wrestling was already very shameful,” London Olympics bronze medalist Yogeshwar said in a live video on Twitter.

Yesterday, the ad hoc committee issued a letter stating that the Asian Games selection trials will be held on July 22 and 23 in all 18 weight classes. But in the 53kg and 65kg categories, the committee said the selection was made although it did not disclose the names. It created great confusion.

The ad hoc committee confused the entire nation by not revealing who they selected. The entire wrestling fraternity is confused. I said that the selection will be done according to the rules of the federation, but it is not.

Yogeshwar, who is also an Asian and Commonwealth Games gold medalist, alleged that national team coach Jagmander Singh and women’s national coach Virender Dahiya, who are part of the panel, were not taken in confidence while handing over the waivers.

WFI rules allow the selection committee to select past Olympic/World Championship medalists without trials, but only if recommended by the head coach/foreign expert.

“I have spoken to Jagminder and the women’s national coach, who have said they are against exemption from the trials. Until the coach or national coaches agree, the selection is not complete. It was a wrong decision not to take them into confidence,” said Yogeshwar.

“Have you done the fitness test for these two selectors? If you have to send a team in this way, you have to select the whole team. Why did you give the exemption in these two weight classes only?” For one, keep the national coaches in the dark.

“All the wrestlers are upset and confused. Gyan Singh, Ashok Garg, Bajwa ji, please explain what is the basis for the trial and what is the basis for the exemption you have given in two weight classes,” Yogeshwar wondered.

“Why are the 53kg and 65kg trials done when the winners are on standby?” Yogeshwar asked all wrestlers to approach the IOA and lodge their protest against such an unfair decision.

“I would like to ask the head of the IOA PT Usha to please take a call and save the wrestling.

This is a strange decision. There is no transparency in this decision. I saw the anime video, she was crying.”

“I would like to ask others like Ravi Dahia and Deepak Punia to come forward and protest this unfair decision.” “I’m with all wrestlers. I won’t
Think for a second if I have to sacrifice anything for justice. Don’t lose hope, keep fighting, keep training and whenever you need to and I’m with all of you guys.” The Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.
