The center has asked Deputy Governor of Delhi Veena Kumar Saxena to ensure the digitization of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, which has been allegedly pending for nearly five years.
LG House officials said the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs had written to Saxena asking him to ensure the National E-Vidhan Application (NeVA) was taken up. The app was launched in 2015 to digitize legislatures across the country and make them paperless.
“The Delhi Legislative Assembly remains the only assembly in the country that has not yet started the digitization process,” LG House officials said, adding that 37 legislatures across the country have done so.
“Despite the project being 100% funded by the central government, in 2019 the AAP government in Delhi refused to accept its financial and technical assistance and instead opted to develop the app on its own at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore.
However, the project has yet to see the light of day despite the elapse of more than four and a half years.
According to the officials, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has written to the LG Secretariat asking to intervene in the matter and ensure that the application is carried out using funds already available under the NeVA project.
The LG Secretariat has referred the request to the Delhi government’s Department of Law, Justice and Legislative Affairs for action, officials said, adding that the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry had earlier written to the Delhi secretary on the matter in February.
