Atit Sheth has got a West Zone dressing room with some domestic cricket veterans as well as members of the Indian team. The fact that he made his way into a star-studded squad for the Duleep Trophy goes to show how much he loves playing domestic cricket for Baroda.
For any budding young cricketer, the experience of rubbing shoulders with the veterans aids their growth tremendously. Naturally, Sheth also saw some qualities and traits that he wanted to incorporate from these local activists.
Speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda, Atit Sheth opened up about what he learned from Suryakumar Yadav. While ‘SKY’ is a No. 1 T20I ranked player, he has also been prolific in first-class cricket and Sheth has spoken of how strong the mentality of the Mumbai batsman is. He said:
“I learned how to stay in the zone from Surya bhai, no matter how well he played. The way he handled each of his innings in the semi-final as well as the final and also the advice he should give to a player when he is on the field is something one can learn from him.” a lot.”
Also talk about the likes of Priyank Panchal and Sarfaraz Khan, who have been almost scoring runs for fun in domestic cricket for the past few years. Sheth added to this:
“The way Priyank Panchal and Sarfaraz have dominated bowlers in domestic cricket, seeing them off bat is a great learning of how to score a truckload of runs in domestic cricket. There have been similar bowlers in the circuit over the past 3-4 years and both have been remarkably consistent unbelievable.”
Atit Sheth on Yashasvi Jaiswal
Atit Sheth and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been part of the same dressing room several times over the past 12 months, and the former has seen South Pau’s unbelievably consistent consistency.
Sheth was not at all surprised to see Jaiswal smash an astonishing 171 on his Test debut. The all-rounder feels like the opener has always been made for the biggest stage. In this he said:
“I was there in the dressing room when he (Jaiswal) scored two hundred on his Duleep Cup debut, when he scored two hundred in Iran A Cup and also when he scored one hundred for India A. It was clear to see from the way he hit that he belonged to the highest level. A huge achievement to score hundreds and hundreds on his debut in every tournament. So I definitely feel he will be playing Test cricket for India for a long time.”
Just as impressive performances in the Duleep Trophy and India A helped Jaiswal quickly get into the Indian team, Atit Sheth will be keen to continue cementing his claim as one of the best all-round bowlers in the country.
