The Gujarat government opposed its application, saying that it had abused the trust of the victims of the riots and involved innocent people

A court session here Thursday rejected the petition for the release of activist Teesta Setalvad in a case of alleged fabrication of evidence related to the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Additional Sessions Judge A.R. Patel denied Setalvad’s petition.

The Gujarat government opposed its application, saying that it had abused the trust of the victims of the riots and involved innocent people.

On Wednesday, Setalvad was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the same case after the Gujarat High Court refused to exempt her.
