Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Gary Tonon was sure of what he had to do against Shamil Jasanov in their latest fight and submission.
‘The Lion Killer’ submitted ‘The Cobra’ by kneebar in the second round of the Mixed Martial Arts Featherweight Showdown at ONE Fight Night 12 on Prime Video on July 14 in Bangkok.
Upon achieving victory, Garry Tunnon turned to his extensive wrestling experience to take on the challenge from Shamil Jasanov, which was punctuated by a stellar knee finish midway through the second round.
The win earned the 31-year-old American fighter a $50,000 performance bonus.
In the post-fight interview session after his win, Garry Tonon broke down the finishing move he used to get the victory, describing it as something he’d done before with great success.
The New Jersey native said:
“I end up on the floor, scrambling again, and he’s behind me which is funny, the move you guys saw is a move I’ve made since I started doing mixed martial arts. You know, I’m playing against the fence. In this case, it’s the ropes and I’m rolling at people’s feet and attack them.”

The win sealed consecutive victories for Gary Tonon, who is again building momentum for another shot at the world title.
He first competed for the world featherweight title in March last year, but lost by first-round knockout to then-world champion Than Lee. Tonon is currently the 2nd ranked contender in the Featherweight division, which is now refereed by Tang Kai of China.
ONE Fight Night 12 reboot is available for free to Prime Video subscribers in North America.
