The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in response to Tamil Nadu State Minister V Senthil Balaji and his wife against the Madras High Court’s order on the legality of his arrest in the money laundering case. The case came to hearing on Wednesday (July 26).
Two separate petitions were filed by the Minister and his wife in the High Court, challenging the July 14 order of the Madras High Court which upheld his arrest by the Emergency Department under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in relation to the cash. – A job scam that appeared in 2015 at the State Department of Transportation when he was Minister of Transportation.
On Thursday, a panel consisting of Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachod and Justice P.S. Narasimha and Manoj Misra learned from the submissions of Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, who appeared before the Minister and his wife, that the case would become futile if it was not heard urgently.
In addition to supporting the arrest of the minister Madras also held HC As it is true, his subsequent remand in judicial custody by the Sessions Court. He remains a Minister without Portfolio in the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Senthil Balaji was arrested on 14 June by the Emergency Department after 18 hours of questioning and search at his official residence and room in the State Secretariat. He was hospitalized after the arrest due to chest pain and underwent coronary artery bypass surgery later.
