A 49-year-old priest was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an underage girl who was attending a pre-university college attached to a city church, police said Friday.
A case has been registered at the Kote (Fort) Police Station here under Section 3 of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012) and Sections 8 and 12 of the SC&ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 2016, said Deputy Superintendent of Police in Shivamuga District Balaraju.
Balaraju said the priest, who is also the principal of the college and hails from the same area, is now in judicial custody.
