“Then, all MLAs representing Mumbai should also get office space at BMC headquarters,” says Aditya Thackeray. Positive response to government is problematic for Oppn,” says Guardian Mumbai (Suburban) Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha

A letter from Mumbai (Suburban) Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha to Mumbai Civic Authority Chairman and Director Iqbal Singh Chahal led to vigorous debates in the Maharashtra State Assembly on Friday.

In the letter dated 5 June 2023, Lodha requested booths for the Trustee Ministers in Mumbai at the premises of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The minister stated that the general public who are facing civil cases do not enter the secretariat building every time. “Resolving civil cases for Mumbai is the core function of BMC and hence Mumbai’s custodian ministers should get a cabin at BMC headquarters,” said Lodha.

Shiv Sena UBT leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray has researched the government led by CM Eknath Shinde on the issue. “Why are two booths allocated at the BMC headquarters for the Regent Ministers in Mumbai? What is the purpose of these provisions? “

Without naming Lodha, who is involved in the construction business, Thackeray said, “Is the Minister Regent planning to build a residential tower in BMC? Is that why he needs a cabin there?”

Thackeray further asked that with the State Government not holding the BMC’s late elections, resulting in no Mayor or Founding Members, why should the Minister Regent be present at the Civic Headquarters? “Then, all MLAs representing Mumbai should also get office space at BMC headquarters where people also come to us, with work related to BMC,” he said.

Criticizing Thackeray for raising the issue ‘unnecessarily’, Lodha told News18: “Since Maha Vikas Agadi was run from home, there was a huge communication gap between people and the government. The primary business of the government is to solve problems and people’s issues. As a trustee minister of Mumbai, I got a lot of complaints regarding civil issues. When I started working from BMC headquarters, I managed to solve many problems within a short time. Why is the opposition making noise? Aren’t they happy that people’s problems are being solved? ?

“The opposition cannot comprehend the fact that Shinde and his deputy, Devendra Fadnavis, have brought the government to the doorsteps of the people. A positive response to the government is an issue for the opposition,” he said.
