Delhi Police on Friday banned the flying of “semi-conventional aerial platforms” such as gliders, hang gliders and hot air balloons in the national capital from July 22 to August 16 for security reasons, officials said.
Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora issued an order to that effect ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
It has been reported that some criminal or anti-social elements or anti-India terrorists may pose a threat to the safety of the general public, VIPs and vital installations through the use of “semi-conventional aerial platforms” such as gliders, parachutes, hang gliders, drones, drones, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small powered aircraft, etc.
Therefore, the Delhi Police Commissioner has prohibited the flying of such aerial platforms over the jurisdiction of the national capital on the occasion of Independence Day, and doing so is punishable under Section 188 (disobedience to an order duly given by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), she said.
The order stated that “This order will be effective from Saturday and will remain in effect for 26 days until August 16 (both days inclusive) unless withdrawn earlier.”
