Happy birthday, Devendra Fadnavis: The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra is one of the shrewd politicians who are credited with bringing the Bharatiya Janata Party back to power in Maharashtra. He was born on July 22, 1970, and today he is 53 years old. The great leader of the BJP and former Chief Minister has set an example for all with his impressive achievements and his growing prestige in Maharashtrian politics. Fadnavis was an active member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad during his college days and entered electoral politics in the mid-1990s.
He is the only politician in Maharashtra who has served as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
On his birthday, let’s have a look at some lesser known facts about Devendra Fadnavis:
- Due to his father’s emergency detention, he refused to attend the local Indira Convent School, as it was named after the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Instead, he went to the RSS-run Saraswati Vidyalaya for his education.
- Fadnavis has a strong academic background. He is a graduate of Nagpur Law College. He also holds a Postgraduate Degree in Business Administration and a Diploma in Project Management from DSE Berlin.
- He started his political career at a young age in 1992, when he became a founder in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation at the age of 22 and served two consecutive terms.
- At the age of 27, he became the youngest mayor of Nagpur and the second youngest mayor of India in 1997.
- Before entering politics, Fadnavis worked as a model for a clothing store in Nagpur, and the ad campaign he was a part of became a huge success.
- Fadnavis was 44 years old when he became Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 31 October 2014, making him one of the youngest board members in the state.
- He was elected to the Maharashtra Assembly from Nagpur South West in 2019.
- On 23 November 2019, Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the second time, with the support of NCP leader Ajit Pawar. However, his government lasted only a few days.
- Later, on 30 June 2022, he was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra when the BJP formed the government with the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde.
- Recently, both Devendra Fadnavis and his wife, Amruta, appeared in a T-series music video titled “Mumbai River Anthem”.
