Billboards praise the Pawar-Vadnavis friendship and claim it is long-standing, and party workers have asked for donations to the CM Relief Fund in lieu of birthday celebrations.

Party workers in Nagpur put up panels congratulating the Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, on their birthday, which they share on July 22. However, the two leaders canceled their birthday celebrations due to the landslide that occurred in Irshalgad in Raigad district which claimed around 23 lives.

The majlis held in Nagpur described the friendship between Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis as “long standing”. This came despite Pawar banning his party workers from holding any kind of birthday celebrations. He also urged people to donate money to the Prime Minister’s relief fund and not to spend unnecessarily on flowers and paintings.

The landslide of Irshalgad occurred in the tribal village at around 11pm on 19 July. The village is located on a hillside, under the Khalapur Tehsil of Raigad district in Maharashtra, about 80 km from Mumbai city. The disaster has claimed 23 lives so far, as reported by News18.

However, the BJP’s Maharashtra unit decided to celebrate Devendra Fadnavis’ birthday as ‘Siva Day’. Chandrasekhar Bawankule, BJP state president, announced that party workers, public representatives and office holders will voluntarily serve flood affected areas across the state. He added that medical assistance will be provided to the people of the affected areas.
