When India faced the West Indies at Queens Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad for what was the 100th Test between the two teams, Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar was honored by Queens Park Cricket Club.
The batting maestro shared a clip of congratulation on his social media handles where he can be seen beaming as members of Queens Park Cricket Club hand a souvenir to commemorate India’s 100th West Indies Test. He also shared two pictures with Brian Lara, popularly dubbed the ‘Prince of Trinidad’.
In the clip, a fan is also seen singing Hindi.
“With the ‘Prince of Trinidad’, Brian Lara, and Nigel Camacho, QPCC President, after the sweet congratulations from Queens Park Cricket Club in Trinidad. My home away from my country. Much love and gratitude to my West Indian fans,” Gavaskar posted on Instagram.
In 27 Tests against the West Indies, the Indian scored 2,749 runs at an average of 65.45. This included 13 centuries and seven half centuries. One of the most memorable battings by Gavaskar was when he scored an unbeaten 236 for the Caribbean team, his highest score in Tests. While that strike came in Chennai in 1983 when the Wendys were visiting, he also scored 1,404 runs in straitened West Indies conditions over 13 matches.
