Manipur video: The sixth arrest made by the police is that of a 19-year-old juvenile. The police have so far arrested five people, including the person who appeared in the video
The Manipur video clip on May 4, in which two women were parading naked, sparked massive outrage among the people and the state. Police made the first arrest on July 20, a day after a 26-second video of the gruesome incident on July 19 emerged. Three more were arrested later that day. Police made a sixth arrest on Saturday.
The disturbing video showed a few men from a community parading two naked women, who were said to be from another conflicted community. The shocking video was released just before the Indigenous Chiefs’ Forum (ITLF) announced their intention to hold a protest march to draw attention to their plight.

DCW chief claims Manipur government refused her permission to visit the state
DCW President Swati Maliwal alleged that the state government refused her permission to visit the state to interact with sexual assault survivors.
After the video of the show came to light, Maliwal wrote to the Director General of Police (DGP) in Manipur, talking about her plans to visit the violence-hit case.

Manipur Police has arrested a sixth person in connection with the Manipur video case. That the arrest occurred.
The police said that the arrested youth is 19 years old. They made four arrests the day after the video emerged on July 19.
– Tightening security throughout Manipur
Manipur Police and Central Forces have tightened security measures across the state to avoid any such violence or outburst in the wake of the viral video of two women being shown naked.
“A total of 126 nakas and checkpoints have been erected in different areas, both in the hill and in the valley, and the police have detained 413 persons in connection with the violations,” Manipur Police wrote on Twitter. They also said that the movement of essential materials on the highway has been ensured.
Manipur government issues ‘rumor free’ helpline number
The Manipur government urged people not to believe the rumors, adding that a “rumor-free” helpline number has been issued for people to report the circulation of unfounded videos.
People were also urged to return looted weapons, ammunition and explosives to the nearest police stations.
Police said all-out efforts are being made to catch the remaining perpetrators by conducting raids on several suspected hideouts.
Sibal says the only way forward is to impose the president’s rule
Amid mounting outrage over the Manipur video on May 4, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal said the only way forward for Manipur is to sack Chief Minister N Birin Singh and impose president’s rule.
Sibal took to Twitter and said, “The only way forward: Sak Birn Singh; Impose Art. 356; Apologize to the women of our country.” He added, “Nothing has changed since Nirbhaya: Unnao, Hatharas, Kathua, Balqis (release of convicts). Betty Bashaw BMG!
More than 160 people have lost their lives, and many more have been injured since ethnic violence erupted in the state on May 3 when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was held in hill areas to protest the Mitte community’s claim to Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
– CM Manipur guarantees the death penalty for offenders
Manipur CMN Birn Singh has responded to the video clip of the women appearing topless, calling it a crime against humanity.
He said that every effort would be made to apprehend the perpetrators and give them the death penalty for having committed such a heinous crime.
According to the ITLF, this incident occurred on May 4, a day after ethnic clashes broke out in the state between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
