The accident happened on Mazar Road in Ulupari when Singh was on his morning walk
In an embarrassment to the Assam Police, gunmen on motorbikes snatched the mobile phone of Deputy Inspector General (Law & Order) Vivek Raj Singh on Sunday from an area close to the force headquarters.
They said the accident occurred on Mazar Road in Ulupari when Singh was on his morning walk. Mazar Road is just a stone’s throw away from the police headquarters, where Singh sits with other senior officials, including the DGP, in central Guwahati.
The official residences of several senior IPS officers are located along Mazar Street. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Baltanbazar Police Station. “We are looking forward to it,” Assistant Commissioner of Guwahati Police (Banbazar) Prithibi Rajkoa told PTI.
However, he refused to share details. A number of senior officers refused to talk about the incident, while some agreed that it was an “embarrassment” to the force.
An officer at Baltanbazar Police Station said they are investigating and have launched a manhunt to catch the mobile kidnappers.
