To boost the fleet of Chandigarh Transport (CTU) buses on interstate routes, Chandigarh Director Panwarilal Purohit on Thursday grounded 20 air-conditioned buses for several new routes.
These buses have the latest BS-VI emission standards and are equipped with electronically controlled diesel engines.
The buses also have air conditioning systems with air vents. All buses have a capacity of 52 passengers along with CCTV cameras – one for driver behaviour, a dashboard camera and a rear camera. Meanwhile, passenger information screens were installed front, rear and inside the saloon area apart from the pneumatically controlled passenger doors. GPS devices, panic buttons and mobile charging points have also been installed in each row, officials said.
Chandigarh (Transport) Director Pradioman Singh said the 20 buses will increase the total power to 178 buses on interstate routes and will increase the daily run to nearly 68,000 km. Existing buses traveling to Khattu Shyam Ji, Salasar Ji, Tanakpur, Haldwani, Amritsar, Haridwar, Shimla, Manali, Delhi, Rewari, Narnaul, Rohtak, Hisar, Dehradun, Katra, Jaipur, etc. cover about 55,000 km every day.
An agreement was signed with M/s Ashok Leyland for the purchase of 20 buses in the month of November 2022. The total cost was Rs.11.20 crore, including taxes (Rs.55.98 lakh per bus).
