A federal judge said so Google Co-founder Larry Page could be served with legal papers by the US Virgin Islands government in the civil lawsuit against him c. B. Morgan Chase related to sex trafficking by longtime bank client Jeffrey Epstein.
An entry on Thursday’s agenda did not reveal what legal paperwork the Virgin Islands wants to serve in the lawsuit, which is still pending in US District Court in Manhattan.

However, U.S. Lands previously issued subpoenas in the suit to BigGoogle co-founder Sergey Brin, as well as former Disney executive Michael Ovitz, CEO of Thomas Pritzker’s Hyatt hotel group, and Mort Zuckerman, a billionaire real estate investor. The subpoenas requested documents and other information about Epstein and JPMorgan.
Page served as CEO of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, from 2015 until 2019, having previously served as CEO of Google. He is still the director of Alphabet.
The US Virgin Islands and a woman who says she was sexually assaulted by Epstein are separately suing JPMorgan, alleging that the bank was complicit in the sex trafficking of several women.
Epstein for years had millions of dollars in deposit at JPMorgan, and used the money from those accounts to facilitate travel for women to his private island residence on the US mainland and elsewhere.
JPMorgan, whose CEO Jamie Dimon is set to be fired in the case in late May, denies any wrongdoing.
On Wednesday, Judge Jed Rakoff held the latest in a series of conference calls in the case with attorneys for the parties to the lawsuit.
An entry to the conference agenda was posted on the court’s website Thursday. “USVI has permission to file a request for surrogate service for Larry Page no later than Thursday afternoon,” it says.
The term “alternative service” indicates that the Virgin Islands had previously attempted to serve legal papers for the claim to Page, but had been unable to do so through conventional means, including by having the process server deliver the papers to him, or obtaining the admission of his attorney. On his behalf.
An alternative service could include mailing legal papers, posting them to a public news site, or emailing them.
CNBC has reached out to the page for comment.
Epstein committed suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019, a month after he was arrested on federal child sex trafficking charges. He had earlier pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting sex from an underage girl in Florida.
JPMorgan did not cut ties with Epstein until 2013.
Over the years Epstein has been friends with many of the rich and famous, including former Presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton.
