Former Bangalore Royal Challengers skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday opened another milestone in his IPL career as he became the first player to take 7,000 runs in the IPL during his team’s clash against Delhi Capitals at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi.
Kohli, who has 49 fifties and five hundreds in the championship at an average of 36.59, said the achievement is just another milestone in what he has dreamed of doing for the team he has played for since the inception of the Indian Premier League.
“7,000 runs is just another milestone during the journey of what I’m trying to do for my team. It’s an amazing number when you’re trying to do something for your team,” the 34-year-old said after the RCB innings.

Kohli, who has a stand named after him at the Arun Gately Stadium, said he was grateful for everything and would continue to work hard.
“It was an honor to get a winger to my name. I started my journey here and started playing for Delhi here. I never imagined all this stuff would come there and there is gratitude for all of this. I want to keep my head down and keep working hard,” he said.
Rajkumar Sharma, his childhood coach, was present on the field to support and encourage the batsman along with the Kohli family.
Kohli said, “It’s a special moment, Anushka is here, my family is here, my coach is here. I’ve said it since day one that having Anushka around was special to me. Having her around and now our daughter too. It makes me feel normalcy is there, cricket is part of life but This is the real deal. It’s special when you come to watch. My brother and other family members are here too, so it’s special.”
Kohli also praised RCB striker Mahipal Lomor and said he has changed the course of the game and that rounds like his play give veteran players a confidence boost.
“Loomer was incredible and me and Pfaff thought 160 would be a good result. Mahipal came in and changed the game and turned the momentum towards us. My job was to hit deep and get those late kicks, but DK and Mahi did a tremendous job too. It gives top players like me and Pfaff Great confidence at this stage of the tournament. “It’s a great sign for the team,” he concluded.
