The current week of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has seen some interesting matches. Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat four-time champions Chennai Super Kings by four wickets at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. Set to chase 201, the PBKS came home off the last ball in a thrilling finish.

In the second match of the double-header, the Mumbai Indians (MI) also chased down more than 200 in a high-scoring match at Mumbai’s Wankidi Stadium. Batting first, Rajasthan put 212/7 on the board. Mumbai passed the target in 19.3 overs, with six wickets in hand.

In a low-scoring game in Lucknow, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recorded an 18-run win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Bangalore were held to 126/9 after winning the toss and batting first. In reply, LSG totaled for 108 in 19.5 overs.

There have been some excellent individual performances from players across franchises in IPL 2023. In this feature we look at SK’s top 5 great performances of the week, courtesy of Lloyd.

#5 Tim David (45* off 14 against RR)

Mumbai Indians’ Tim David hit 45* from just 14 balls against RR in Match #42 of IPL 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. David’s heavy duty knock featured two fours and up to five sixes as MI chased down a target of 213 with three balls to spare.

Suryakumar Yadav (55 out of 29) and Cameron Green (44 out of 26) laid the foundation for the victory with powerful strokes. However, MI still needs 17 from the last. David did the job for the team, hitting three straight home runs off Jason Holder.

#4 Ishant Sharma (2/23 against GT)

Veteran Ishant Sharma has been a surprise pack for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2023. Even when most fans and experts have written him off, he has put in some excellent performances for the Delhi franchise. Ishant’s 2/23 played a key role in DC’s defense of a total of 130 against the reigning champions Gujarat Titans.

The tall bowler dismissed Vijay Shankar for 6 with a knuckle ball. He then bowled superbly under pressure, also claiming the massive scalp of Rahul Tuatia (20-of-7). Ishant’s effort should qualify for the Most Valuable Performance of the Week.

#3 Ishan Kishan (75 of 41 against PBKS)

MI opener, Ishan Kishan, came back to shine with a 75 off 41 in the 46th match of IPL 2023 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali. The hard hitting left-handed batsman featured seven fours and four sixes.

Bowling first, Mumbai conceded 214/3 as Liam Livingston smashed 82 off 42 balls. But Ishan and Suriyakumar (66 from 31) added 116 for the third wicket to put MI on track for a second consecutive chase of more than 200. Ishan was named man of the match for his impressive batting efforts.

#2 Faf du Plessis (44 off 40 vs. LSG)

On a very slow batting surface, RCB captain Faf du Plessis (44 of 40) delivered a notable effort against LSG in Lucknow in match number 43. Even when most of the other batsmen struggled, Du Plessis batted in the middle and occupied the crease for nearly 17 overs.

Although he hit only one fours and six in his daring batting, the South African runs were worth their weight in gold on a weak batting track. Du Plessis’ knock took RCB to 126/9. In reply, LSG were bowled out for 108. Du Plessis’ hard-earned effort was among the finest batting performances this week.

#1 Yashasvi Jaiswal (124-of-62 vs Michigan)

Opener RR Yashasvi Jaiswal was in exceptional form in IPL 2023. He carried the momentum into the match against Mumbai Indians hitting 124 off just 62 balls, his first ton in the IPL. Jaiswal’s heavy-duty knock featured 16 fours and eight sixes, taking Rajasthan to 212/7.

The 21-year-old dominated the proceedings as the next best was an innings of 18 by opening partner Joss Butler. The left-hander almost struggled for the full 20s, as he was dismissed by Arshad Khan with only a few deliveries left. The strike wasn’t worth ending up on the losing side, but the MI hitter did very well for RR that day.
