The Indian Geological Survey (GSI) said on Tuesday that reports of large lithium reserves identified in Rajasthan are “baseless”.
“Media reports published in various newspapers regarding the finding of large reserves of lithium by the Geological Survey of India, in Digana District, Nagore District, Rajasthan are completely unfounded and misleading,” the survey organization said.
She added: “The aim is to emphasize that no such information was provided by the regional or central headquarters of the Global Nuclear Weapons Initiative.”
“It should be informed that GSI has been prospecting for tungsten, lithium and associated rare metals in Djana district, Nagaur district, Rajasthan, since 2019-20 and drilling work is still in progress,” the company said.
“The resource will only be created after the completion of the excavation work and the completion of the report.”
Earlier in the day, Rajasthan’s Minister for Mines, Pramod Bhaiya, said, “Recently, a survey conducted by GSI at Degana tehsil in Nagaur showed that there is abundant reserve of lithium, which is more than Jammu and Kashmir.”
Earlier this year, 5.9 million tons of Lithium reserves are found in Jammu and Kashmir by GSI. Lithium is mainly used in rechargeable batteries for mobile phones, laptop computers, and electric vehicles.
