Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, will testify before Congress for the first time next week as lawmakers urgently seek to figure out how to regulate rapidly evolving AI tools.
Sid Altman, whose company created the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, will testify before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, and the Law Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET, according to a press release from Subcommittee Chairman Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn. and ratings member Josh Hawley, R-mo.
It will also present the hearing titled “Censorship of Artificial Intelligence: The Rules of Artificial Intelligence.” ibm Vice President and Chief Privacy and Trust Officer Christina Montgomery and NYU Professor Emeritus Gary Marcus.
It will take place the day after Altman joins lawmakers from both sides of the aisle for dinner after Monday’s vote, according to a copy of the invitation obtained by NBC News. Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., who is co-hosting the dinner, told NBC News that it is intended to “educate members” and that more than 50 lawmakers have already responded to the invitation.
Last week, Altman joined the other CTOs of Meeting at the White House With Vice President Kamala Harris to discuss the risks associated with artificial intelligence.
