Jaishankar’s assurances came during his meeting with Lord Ahmed, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development, against the background of the vandalism of the Indian High Commission in London in March by Khalistan supporters.
Jaishankar took to Twitter to share the issues he raised during his discussions with Lord Ahmed.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs said: “I met with British Lord Tariq Ahmed today in New Delhi … he stressed the commitment to ensuring the security of our diplomatic missions and preventing the abuse of democratic freedoms.”
In April, the Federal Home Office handed over the investigation into the case of the attack on the Indian mission in London to the National Investigation Agency after a meeting with representatives from Britain.
Jaishankar said he also discussed a wide range of issues ranging from the Free Trade Agreement and South Asia to the Indo-Pacific and G20 with the visiting minister.
India and the United Kingdom have conducted nine rounds of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
India and the UK have been negotiating a free trade agreement since January last year, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement that is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade relations worth an estimated £34 billion in 2022.
Recently, Britain’s chief negotiator for the free trade agreement – Harjinder Kang – was appointed as the country’s new trade commissioner for South Asia and deputy high commissioner for Western India based in Mumbai.
According to UK government statistics, India was the UK’s twelfth largest trading partner in the four quarters to the end of the third quarter of 2022, accounting for 2.1 percent of the UK’s total trade.
