The Gujarat High Court on June 10 will hear a petition by the Progressive Liquor Retailers Association alleging that Gujarat authorities have unlawfully implicated wine shop owners and liquor license holders in Maharashtra as defendants in cases under the Gujarat Prohibition Act.

According to the petition, which was recorded at the hearing on May 5, such actions led to the arrest of wine shop owners without proper investigation. The petition also says that wine shop owners and liquor license holders from Maharashtra are being prosecuted as defendants in cases based on statements made by the accused who was caught in illegal transportation of liquor to Gujarat.

The Petitioners Association indicated in its petition that as per the current rules in Maharashtra, if a license holder selling liquor breaches any requirement or is involved in any matter relating to the prohibition law, the police officials are directed to inform the tax department and all actions in this context will be taken by Section.

The petition sought that the Gujarat High Court direct the Gujarat authorities not to take coercive steps against wine shop owners or liquor license holders in Maharashtra and direct the Gujarat authorities to establish rules to limit harassment of wine shop owners in Maharashtra.
