Haber Sadar’s Vijaypal Adhati urged the administration to tighten security at temples in the city and demanded strict action be taken against the accused.

Police said a man was arrested on Saturday after he was said to have offered ‘namaz’ in the Chandi temple premises here.

Satyanarayan Agarwal, in charge of the Temple Commission office, filed the FIR at Kotwali Nagar Police Station while BJP leaders and members of Hindu groups demanded strict action against the accused.

Hapur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma said Anwar, a resident of Sarai Bisharat Ali, had offered Namaz at the temple on Friday morning and was detained from Bulandshahr Road a few hours later.

An official said police analyzed CCTV footage from the temple to identify the suspects.

Devotees who attended the temple for morning ‘aarti’ on Friday alleged that the accused spread a piece of cloth on the floor and started offering ‘namaz’. The priest stopped him and escorted him outside the temple premises.
