No-Honk Day 2023: Unnecessary honking causes noise pollution and has a negative impact on one’s health. Hence, the traffic police decided to celebrate the “No Honor Day” on June 14, an official said.

There is no Honor Day in Mumbai on 14th June: Mumbai’s traffic police said on Monday that it will mark a “No Honor Day” on June 14 and urged Mumbaikars to take part in the campaign against unnecessary honking. He decided to celebrate “No Honors Day” on June 14, an official said.

He said motorists have been advised to ensure that the horns in their cars comply with the guidelines laid out in the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The official said action would be taken under the Motor Vehicle Act and the Environmental Protection Act against motorists who honked unnecessarily.

Welcome to the honorable capital of the world

In 2020, the Mumbai Police shared a nearly two-minute video on Twitter encouraging people not to be alert. The video begins with “Mumbai. Welcome to the honking capital of the world. Here people honk even when the signal is red. Maybe they think by honking, they can make the signal turn green faster?”

They went on to say, “We, the Mumbai Police have been dying to do something about it.”

The short clip shows the police installing decibel meters at a few locations including CSMT, Bandra, Peddar Road, Hindmata and the next day the signals were restored automatically at 90 seconds as the counter reached 85 decibels.

Travelers appeared shocked when a message was displayed on a flyer, “Horn more, wait more.” The clip ends with two “Hi-5” cops sharing and giving a short message, “Feel free to honk, if you don’t mind waiting.”

In another tweet, she urged the police not to honk too much or one day you will go deaf. The letter also advises taking care of the elderly, the young, and the sick, as noise is certainly not good for their health.
