The HistoryTV18 Original Documentary – “Evacuation: Operation Ganga” – produced by Colosceum Media, which premiered at 8pm on Saturday (June 17), provided a unique insight into how the Indian government rescued Indian students stuck in war-torn Ukraine .

The documentary features a detailed account of the days leading up to the conflict in February 2022 through to the actual outbreak of war and beyond. Operation Ganja is one of the largest evacuation operations to be carried out in the 21st century, in a hostile environment.

In the course of rescue work on February 26, 2022, the third day of the war, Air India pilot Shivani Kalra said, “We have been given a very safe passage to reach Budapest and take out the stranded Indians. As soon as we arrived, we saw the station full of stranded Indians waving us and take pictures.”

With the maiden voyage underway, Ganga’s operation kicks off. Early the next day, the second evacuation took place when an AI flight with 250 students on board landed.

The documentary shows an emotional breakdown of parents thanking the government for saving their children.

Union Aviation and Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitored the exercise on a minute-to-minute basis, and held meetings in the operating room at least twice a day, every day. Union ministers Jaishankar ji and Piyush Goyal ji were working on the systems on the ground, side by side. Together with the embassy staff in all four countries… the embassy.”

Speaking about India’s diplomatic efforts, Dr. S. Through diplomatic channels, the Prime Minister reached out to President Putin, to secure a ceasefire during the evacuation period and to obtain specific routes for the evacuation. While many countries struggled to evacuate their citizens with just two flights, India has successfully coordinated 90 flights to bring back the Indian students safely. Our nation’s important voice continues to play a pivotal role in shaping outcomes on the world stage.”

Special envoys and senior ministers also appeared in the documentary. Hardeep Puri (Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas), Gen (ret.) VK Singh (State Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Civil Aviation) and Kiren Rijiju (Minister for Geosciences) explain how India is speeding up border crossings in countries neighboring Ukraine, enabling It reveals the extraordinary collaboration of state machinery, Indian defense forces, private partners and the Indian diaspora, like we have never seen before.

From the first-hand experiences of students living in shelters without food and water, to the anxieties of their helpless parents back home, the film pits fear against a massive practical force focused on one agenda – to bring every Indian home.
