The Chief Minister said he will make sure that no such “unnatural deaths” occur in the state
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharmayah on Monday gave a ‘compensation’ check of Rs 25 lakh and announced jobs for the families of the six people killed in communal incidents since 2018.
The Chief Minister said he will make sure that no such “unnatural deaths” occur in the state.
According to Siddaramaiah, Deepak Rao (Dakshina Kannada District) was murdered on January 3, 2018; Masood (Dakshina Kannada District) on July 19, 2022; Mohamed Fazil (Dakshina Kannada) July 28, 2022; Abdul Jalil (Dakshina Kannada) on December 24, 2022; Edrich Pasha (Mandia) on March 31, 2023; and Shamir (Jedaq) on January 17, 2022, they were killed in separate incidents.
While Dipak Rao was hacked to death when Siddaramaiah was Chief Minister five and a half years ago, the other five lost their lives during the rule of the BJP.
The chief minister said the previous BJP government discriminated against people while providing relief and only provided compensation to the family members of Praveen Netar, a BJP leader from Dakshina Kannada, and Harsha, a Bajrang Dal activist, from Shivamagha who were murdered last year.
Siddaramaiah said that when Praveen Netar was killed, the then Chief Minister (Basavraj Bommai) went to his house, who was right, but he should have also gone to the houses of Masood and Fazil.
As prime minister, Bommai gave jobs to the family members of Harsha and Praveen Netar. That’s fine but shouldn’t it be given to others (jobs and compensation)? he wondered.
The Prime Minister said that the government at the time did not provide any compensation to the relatives of the six victims. Today we do justice to their families. Besides, we will investigate the case and ensure that the culprit involved in the crime is punished.”
He said that as the then Leader of the Opposition, he had proposed in the Karnataka Assembly jobs and compensation for the family members of Muslims who had been killed, but the BJP government did not agree to this.
“After our government comes to power, we will give compensation of Rs 25,000 to each family and ‘successors’ of those 6 people who have been killed. We will give them jobs because everyone should be seen as equal. The government should not discriminate against people. The BJP discriminates.” “To make things right, we’re doing this work,” Siddaramaiah explained.
He also said that the government will investigate the cases to ensure that the perpetrators involved in the crime are punished.
The prime minister also warned of sectarian clashes and moral police in the country.
We will not allow such unnatural deaths. We will do our best to ensure that there are no sectarian clashes in the state. Whoever they are, whether they are Hindus or Muslims, no one should die in communal clashes and no one should take the law into their own hands.
Siddaramaiah said he has given directions to the police to check the moral policing, adding that the government will not allow anyone to take the law into their own hands.
We would like to give this clear message to the people of the country. We will protect everyone whether they are Hindu, Muslim, Christian or Sikh. It is the government’s responsibility to protect everyone, their property and their lives. “There is no discrimination in terms of law enforcement,” said the first minister.
