The University of Mumbai has approved a new five-year perspective plan focusing on skills-based training for students, adhering to the National Education Policy (NEP).
Instead of the traditional arts, sciences and commerce courses, the new Perspective plan will focus on offering skills-based courses that complement the local needs of the different areas covered by the University of Mumbai. The recent special meeting of the Senate of the University of Mumbai affirmed the five-year future plans for the academic years 2024-25 to 2028-29.
According to the University of Mumbai, apart from outlining the skill-based courses that can be offered, the perspective plan has also identified site points for starting a women’s college, affiliate centers and night colleges.
“Keeping in mind the demands of local industries and job opportunities along with the higher education interests of the local population, the perspective plan covers all the districts covered by MU – Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palgarh, Sinduurga and Ratnagiri. There are different kinds of geographical conditions for all these districts. Starting from urban and rural configuration to tribal, hill and coastal areas, says the statement released by the University of Mumbai on Tuesday.
“Apart from taking into account geographical conditions, the Perspective Plan also took into account existing higher education facilities and stakeholder suggestions,” she said.
This perspective plan envisions a variety of innovative skill-based courses such as stock market course, construction and allied business management, agricultural product management, plastic waste management, cloud computing and data tracking, data management, and manual composting among all.
