A month after Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Limited (GUJSAIL) issued a tender in a bid to restart seaplane service between Sabarmati Riverfront and Unity Statue, Unity District Development and Tourism Management Authority (SOUADTGA) issued a tender to resume hang-by helicopter services at Unity Statue.
Following GUJSAIL’s tender to restart the seaplane service, SOUADTGA has now put out a Request for Proposal (RFP) to select the operator to provide helicopter ride services at the Statue of Unity – for an aerial view of the tallest statue in the world. Flights were discontinued in 2021, due to “wildlife disturbance” in the woodland area due to its proximity to the helipad. Now, the helicopter is scheduled to take off from the airstrip opposite the Arogya Van, according to the officials.
The Request for Bid, announced by SOUADTGA on June 14, will allow bidders to submit their interest by June 30.
The bid sought bids from companies and individuals with “two years of previous experience providing helicopter ride services for four (1+3) or more seats.” “The operator shall provide helicopter services by helicopter with one helicopter with a minimum of 4 seats (1 + 3), subject to fair weather conditions and obtaining clearance from ATC and other relevant authorities. The operations agreement to be carried out with the selected bidder will be tripartite WITH SOUADTGA AND GUJSAIL,” the bid stated.
“SOUADTGA also specified that the helicopter to be deployed for the project must have proof of ownership of a local lease license. The deadline for submitting the bid is June 30. According to the tender details, the tripartite agreement will be valid for one year.”
When the helicopter service was pressed into operation in SoU in 2018, the fare was 2,900 rupees per person for a 10-minute flight.
In May, GUJSAIL, on behalf of Special Purpose Vehicle Varuna Vayu Seva Limited, issued a new RFP to select a three-year airline to bring the seaplane project back on the road. The last day for submitting bids in this regard is June 28.
