PM Modi Begins Historic US State Visit to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the White House on Wednesday for a historic state visit, marking an important moment for deepening defense and technology cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi was warmly received by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden at the White House. Exchange pleasantries and take pictures before entering the building.

“When friends meet! PMnarendramodi arrives at the WhiteHouse for an exclusive engagement with @POTUSJoeBiden, FLOTUS @DrBiden & family. “It is an occasion for two leaders who share close bonds of friendship to celebrate special moments together,” said the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, in a tweet.

The president, first lady and prime minister gathered for an intimate dinner and enjoyed a musical tribute to the regions of India, according to the White House.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Foreign Minister Vinay Quatra and Deputy Chief of Protocol Asim Vohra were seen entering the White House.

The White House also said that as an official gift, the President and First Lady will present Prime Minister Modi with an antique American handmade book from the early 20th century.

She added that she would also give Moody an antique American camera, accompanied by an archival replica of George Eastman’s patent for the first Kodak camera, and a hardcover book on photographing American wildlife.

Prime Minister Modi arrived here on Wednesday on the second leg of his first state visit to the US during which he will also address a joint session of the US Congress.

Modi arrived here from New York where he led a historic event at the United Nations Headquarters earlier in the day to mark the 9th International Day of Yoga, which was attended by UN officials, diplomats and dignitaries.
