Three INIFD Chandigarh students, Ankita Jangra, Satyam Gurgar, and Muskaan Parashar, have been selected to showcase their collections at the 2023 Pepe Jeans London Fashion Designers Awards – The Student Edition. The event, organized by Pepe Jeans India in association with Marc Robinson, marked the first edition of the awards on a national scale.
Among the ten finalists from various design institutions across India, Ankita Jangra, Satyam Gurgar, and Muskaan Parashar stood out for their creativity and exceptional skills. Notably, Ankita Jangra received the Special Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution. The finale of the awards took place in Mumbai, where all three designers were honored with cash prizes.
The designs and concepts presented by the designers of INIFD Chandigarh garnered high praise from the jury and the media. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from fashion design colleges and institutions across the country.
The jury included Manish Kapoor, Managing Director and CEO of Pepe Jeans India Limited, Troy Costa, owner of the menswear label, and prominent fashion and fashion designers such as Nachiket Barve, Ashish Soni and Narendra Kumar. Mark Robinson, Indian actor, former model, beauty pageant director, and beautician also served as project lead for the event.
Expressing her excitement, Ankita Jangra shared her creative process saying, “I used handcraft techniques in my garments, such as cutting small pieces from old jeans and skillfully stitching them together. The atmosphere of the competition was inspiring, and I had the opportunity to have a chat with Mark Robinson, which I think will benefit greatly. Great future endeavor.”
Under the theme “Blue Nation,” the International Intellectual Property Institute designed their collections using blue fabrics that are simple and easy to style. Adding a touch of red and white to represent the colors of London, their designs struck the perfect balance.
To mark the occasion, Denim Day was celebrated at the INIFD Chandigarh campus, where students and faculty showed their love for denim through interesting displays and wearing denim.
