Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that American Indians have played an important role in the overall development of the nation in which they live and also in strengthening Indo-US relations.
Modi was addressing a state dinner hosted by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden in his honor on the North Lawn of the White House.
More than 400 guests were invited to the dinner, and among them were big names in the tech world and billionaire industrialists like Mukesh Ambani, Anand Mahendra, Google CEO Sunder Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Apple CEO Tim Cook. During his speech at the state dinner, Modi raised a toast to his “wonderful” hosts.
He raised it to good health, prosperity, and the pursuit of happiness, to liberty, equality, and fraternity, and to the enduring bonds of friendship between India and the United States.
“With each passing day, Indians and Americans get to know each other better. We can pronounce each other’s names correctly. We can understand each other’s accent better. Children in India become Spider-Man on Halloween, and the youth of America dance to ‘Natto-Natu’ “”.
He said that Americans love baseball, but cricket has also become popular in the United States. “The US team is doing its best to qualify for the Cricket World Cup to be held in India later this year. I wish them success,” the prime minister said.
Moody told Biden that tonight he has gathered a group of exceptionally talented and talented people. “I must commend you for that. These people symbolize so much the Indo-US relationship, our energy, our dynamism, and our nation.”
American Indians have come a long way in the United States. They are proud of India’s values, democratic traditions and culture, and have always found a respected place in America’s melting pot. Prime Minister Modi said that American Indians have played an important role in further strengthening the inclusive society and economy in the United States.”
“Whether it is hospitals, hotels, universities, research laboratories, gas stations or logistics management, they leave their mark everywhere,” the prime minister said.
In his remarks, President Biden said that the bonds between India and the United States extend back to the early days of America. “In 1792,” he said, “our first president, George Washington, established one of the first consulates in Calcutta as a center of commerce and culture…”.
There are reasons, Biden said, for both democracies to endure, tolerate, and consider renewal, generation after generation.
“I see in my visit to India. I see in the diaspora here in America, in the arts, education, media, law, medicine, science, companies of all sizes, at Spelling Bee, even in cricket clubs across the country, including in my native Delaware and a record number of Indians Americans in Congress who are here tonight.”
Prime Minister Modi is visiting the US from June 21-24 at the invitation of President Joe Biden and the First Lady. The guest list also included human rights activist Martin Luther King III, tennis legend Billie Jean King, director M. Night Shyamalan, fashion designer Ralph Lauren, Grammy Award winner Joshua Bell, and entrepreneur Frank Islam.
The Amerindian legislators on the list were Pramila Jayapal, Shri Thanedar, Ro Khanna, Ami Bera and Raja Krishnamurthy. Among the members of the Biden family at the dinner were Hunter Biden, Ashley Biden, James Biden, and Naomi Biden-Neal. Vice President Kamala Harris, who will host a lunch for Prime Minister Modi, was also present.
The dinner was attended by India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar with US diplomats and members of the Biden administration.
