Two men in a car were shot dead by unknown persons who were following them – the bullet went through the window on the driver’s side – at CR Park in south Delhi on Thursday night.

Police said at around 8.14pm, they received a call of gunfire from C Block in CR Park and that one person was injured. Police rushed to the spot and found two scrap dealers, Sachin Gupta and Wasim Ahmed, in the car.

DCP (South) Chandan Chaudhary said that when Sachin was driving suddenly, one shot was fired at them from the driver’s side. “The bullet went through the window from the driver’s side and hit his finger,” said the PSD director.

Upon further investigation, the police said, it was found that two persons with covered faces were following the vehicle on a bicycle.

A senior officer said, “The incident occurred within walking distance of Market No. 1… The victims are junk dealers. We have retrieved CCTV footage of the area, where men on a bicycle can be seen following the victims… Suddenly one of them put a gun on and fired at the car, Then the car stops and the two-wheeler drives away.”

Another officer said they are investigating several angles, including personal animosity. The officer said, “It is suspected that it could be a case of mistaken identity and the same is being investigated… We have traced the plate number of the two-wheeler and raids are underway to arrest the men.”

A case has been filed under IPC Division relating to attempted murder at CR Park Police Station.
