Police here on Saturday said a policewoman has been suspended for allegedly cooperating with a gang of man and woman besieging people for honey through dating apps.

The matter was registered at Farrukhnagar Police Station and the woman was under investigation by a special team.

The police had earlier arrested Benita Kumari, the ringleader, along with her partner, Mahesh Phogat, an operator for an NGO. Binita surrounded men with online dating apps like Tinder and Bumble. She makes an appointment to meet them in a hotel room, where she accuses them of rape and calls the police.

Binita and Phogat are arrested while accepting Rs 50,000 extortion money from the victim. Both were booked in two cases at Farukhnagar Police Station and taken under production order by SIT.

SIT also confiscated Rs 2.15 lakhs in cash which was found in their possession at the time of the arrest. During the investigation, one of Benita’s victims accused Sub-Inspector Munish Devi of dealing with the accused.

He alleged that after he met Pennetta at a hotel in Varukhnagar on May 14, Munish Devi called him and said there was a complaint against him. Later, she asks him to compromise with Benita.

After the accusation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by ACP Pataudi was set up to investigate the charges against Munish Devi.

Based on the details of the call and the mobile location of the accused and Ms. Asi Munish Devi, she was suspended on Thursday after her role in the matter was found to be suspicious.

“An administrative investigation has also been initiated against ASI and an investigation is underway,” said SIT Chairman, ACP Harinder Singh.
