Zimbabwe stole the limelight in the 2023 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after defeating the two-time world champions West Indies by 35 times in the Harare Sports Club. Sikandar Raza became man of the match after scoring 68 runs off 58 balls with six fours and sixes, and catching two crucial wickets – from Shai Hope and Keemo Paul.
In the other match of the day, the Netherlands, captained by Scott Edwards, defeated Nepal by seven wickets at the Takachinga Sports Club in Harare. Max O’Dowd won man of the match for his speed of 90 75 balls with eight fours and four sixes.
Craig Ervine returned to be the leading scorer for the tournament in the 2023 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The left-handed batsman made 218 runs from three matches at an average of 109 and a strike rate of 93.16.
West Indies captain Shai Hope is second in the list with 216 runs from three matches at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 94.74.
Sean Williams is third on the list with 216 runs at an average of 108 and a batting average of 140.26. American Shayan Jahangir is the other batsman with more than 200 points in the running tournament. Nicholas Poran, Sikander Raza and Max O’Dowd were also impressive.
The Sri Lankan Wanindu Hasaranga is the leading wicket taker in the 2023 FIFA World Cup qualifiers currently. The leg-legged whirlpool took 11 wickets at an astonishing average of 3.36. Zimbabwean left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava is second in the list with eight wickets from three matches at an average of 13.50.
Alzarri Joseph of the West Indies, Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe, Brandon McMullen of Scotland and Gulshan Jha of Nepal all picked up six wickets each. Junaid Siddiqui, Saurabh Netravalkar and Logan van Beek were also impressive.
