As many as eight juveniles have been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old to death in a public park in Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, on Friday night. The victim, Sourav Bhardwaj, 16, was a tenth grade student.
Police said the weapons used in the crime, a “Ghandasi” knife and wooden sticks were recovered from the events. They were all sent to Juvenile Homes Sector 25.
Cops said the victim and the juveniles who were arrested had an argument over the issue of loitering in the park. A police officer said, “The juveniles who were arrested were from another area, and the victim had raised their objection to their presence in the public park near his house. Some of the juveniles who were arrested were captured by surveillance cameras installed in the area. We helped identify and arrest them.” “.
A case was registered under Articles 302 (Punishment for Murder) and 34 (Acts by Several Persons in Fostering a Common Intent) of the Iraqi Penal Code at Mouli Jagran Police Station.
Police said Jagdish Bhardwaj, the victim’s father, told police that he had sent his son to buy rice at around 8.45pm on Friday. When he was again asked to fetch a clay lamp, Sourav reportedly complained to his father that some boys he was hostile to were prowling outside the house to kill him. Bharadwaj tells his son that nothing will happen, as he is standing in the gallery and watching it. Police said that when Sourav reached the park, he was surrounded by seven to eight boys who stabbed him brutally.
Sourav was taken to GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where doctors pronounced him dead. Police located the juvenile fugitives and arrested all juveniles involved in the crime within 4 hours of reporting the crime.
